Easy Easter Craft Projects for Kids

Do you need some easy Easter craft projects for the kids?

I have several fun, simple and totally easy to complete craft projects just in time for Easter Sunday.

While my family celebrates Passover, since my "day job" (really usually" middle-of-the-night when the kids are asleep job") is to write about crafts, I found a few Easter crafts I couldn't not share.



These Easter crafts are great for kids of all ages - older kids will need less help, and younger kids will need more help. Also, babies love it when you just do the whole thing for them and sign their name and date it for their baby book.



Embellished Duck Tape Easter Eggs - I've written about making Duck Tape Easter Eggs before, but then I couldn't leave those eggs alone, so I used Mod Podge and added sequins. The eggs turned out really cute - and even better, the sequins didn't fall right off - yay.

Decoupage Easter Eggs - I had been wanting to do this since I saw some way better versions on Pinterest, and while mine may not be total Pin-fection, I was also pretty happy with how these eggs came out. To make decoupage Easter eggs, just cover a plastic egg with Mod Podge, then cover with tissue paper or a decorative napkin of your choice (I used a translucent flower cupcake wrappers, and then cover the whole thing again with Mod Podge to ensure the paper stays down and also to give the egg a nice glossy cover.

Rhinestone Easter Eggs - We had a lot of sticky rhinestones from some other craft project, and I thought they would be perfect to bling out some Easter Eggs. The advantage to these eggs, unlike the ones above, is that you can still open the plastic eggs and fill with Rainbow Loom bracelets, Littlest Pet Shop guys, and various other trinkets.

Ice Easter Eggs - This was my "brilliant" idea based on someone else's actually brilliant idea on Pinterest. I thought it would be really cool to freeze stuff (sequins, Squinkies, little toys, etc.) in plastic Easter Eggs and then the kids could crack 'em open and discover and play with the little treasures that ha d been frozen inside. The problem, however, was that Easter Eggs divide in the middle so there's no way to put an egg-shaped amount of water into the egg (actually, I'm sure there is a way, but I don't know it).

I went ahead and froze the half-empty (or is it half-full?) eggs:

And then I had the kids open them up outside, because I have learned the hard way the simple equation of kids+ice = MESS:

And there you see, our blob-shaped ice. Not the Pinterest-perfect egg-shaped ices I had so longed for. (Those were actually created by pouring water and trinkets into a balloon, and then cutting away the balloon after it's frozen, to reveal perfect egg shapes. You can see them here.)

Easter Crafts with Duck Tape

 A re-publish from last year, because nothing says Happy Easter! like Duck Tape covered eggs.

 

Last year we covered plain ol' plastic eggs

with Duck Tape for this happy result:

To make these yourself, all you need to do is take plastic eggs and cover them with Duck Tape. You can overlap the tape a bit for texture and patterns, and that's it!

Of course, once covered you can't open the eggs so this is not a project for kids hoping for surprises in the eggs. This project is strictly for decorative purposes only.

And I do think it's turns out very decorative.

Old Photo Friday: One Kid as a Bunny and One Kid with Bunnies

Once upon a time, not so long ago in Old Photo Friday terms, it seemed the kids got their faces painted every.single.weekend. Now? Not so much. (Not that I'm complaining.)

So as I was compiling a nice little gallery of their adorable painted faces, I was happy to come across a bunny face perfect for some Easter posting, Jewish kid style.

And once upon a time, it seemed like every urban weekend was spent visiting a makeshift petting zoo of some kind. And now? Not so much. Again, I'm not complaining. Just noticing.

I still remember how much you loved petting those rabbits.

Great Kids Easter Craft Ideas

I liked how they turned out so much, I even got down a bowl from my wedding china with its basket weave pattern so we could display our mother-daughter Duck Tape handiwork on the kitchen table.

In Honor of Easter... A Tale of Bunny Baby Brother

Before Ziggy was born, I told his sisters (then ages three and five) that they could pick out something for him to wear home from the hospital, and maybe also a blanket for him to sleep with... and, sure, maybe a toy or stuffed animal, too. 

My two daughters, who are usually willing to argue over anything at anytime, proceeded to have a quite pleasant conversation indicating that they were both clearly on the same page about what to get for their new baby brother:
Kay: Let's get him a bunny outfit!

Magpie: Yeah, and a hat with bunny ears!
Kay: In brown! So he'll look like Cottontail! (Cottontail is the name of the wild bunny who lives in our yard.)

Magpie: And then we'll leave the baby on the porch, or maybe the yard if it isn't raining, and we'll put a tail on his bunny outfit...

Kay: Will the outfit have a tail?

Magpie: ...and then Cottontail will follow the baby inside the house!

Two years later, I still tease the girls about how they wanted to dress their baby brother up as rabbit-bait.

And two years later, the girls are still mad at me that Baby Ziggy wasn't used to lure that bunny.

Easter Crafts - Make Geode and Decoupage Eggs, Marshmallow Bunnies and Handprint Art Ideas, Too

I've been looking around online for the last few days for handprint crafts for Easter, because I feel an obligation to provide handprint crafts for the fifty-percent of my traffic (I'm totally serious) that comes here from a Google search of some variation on "handprint crafts."

But my search for handprinted bunnies and eggs? Eh, not so great. So instead, I offer these fun craft ideas for Easter:

Geode Easter Eggs. I love these. I was totally going to make these with my kids, but to be honest, it seems a little difficult so I will put them on my "to do next year" list. But they sound sooo cool and they look amazing:

Decoupage Easter Eggs. These eggs are gorgeous, and I personally love any opportunity to Mod Podge - and I'm not even kidding.  Anything the kids want to do - save spring flowers, press fall leaves, protect prized art work from their little brother, my answer is always "OK, let's do it. We'll Mod Podge it!"

Best about the Decoupage Easter Egg project, the directions are very easy to follow and show exactly how to go from this:

I also saw some fantastic eggs decoupaged with postage stamps, which I should definitely make because I had a buying-postage-stamps-from-eBay habit for awhile there, and now I find those little wax envelopes filled with stamps all over the house and know I need to find a use for them.

And last, Cute Food For Kids has super-adorable Marshmallow Bunnies, and clear, detailed directions, too.
