{Giveaway now closed.}
As I mentioned earlier this week, I am one of the contributors to I Just Want to Pee Alone, the funniest book ever about being a mom -- and I'm not saying that because, uh, I'm one of the contributors. The book really is hilarious. But you don't need to trust me, read the reviews of I Just Want to Pee Alone on Amazon here.
There are thirty-seven hilarious essays from mom bloggers included in the book, which when arranged not in alphabetical order but in pyramid order, looks like this (Thank you Baby Sideburns for this perfect solution for sharing all the contributors in a way that is so fair, even toddler twins couldn't find complaint.)
GIVEAWAY - ENTER TO WIN A SIGNED COPY OF "I JUST WANT TO PEE ALONE"
In honor of I Just Want to Pee Alone holding down the #1 spot in the Humor category on both Amazon and iTunes, I'm giving away five signed copies of the book - winner's choice of paper copy (emblazoned with my signature as well as those of Kim of the Fordeville Diaries, Kim of Let Me Start By Saying and Amy of Amy's Real Life.) Or if you don't want our awesome autographs, you can choose to get the book via Kindle download, too.
My essay is entitled: A Pinterest-Perfect Mom, I Am Not. You probably already figured this out from the title, but my chapter looks at a Pinterest project at my house that goes very, very wrong.
To enter to win a copy of the book, just leave a comment with the best or worst thing you've ever tried to craft, create or bake or share the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen on Pinterest.
For three additional entries leave a comment that you did the following, or that you already:

ReplyDeletePintrest Fail: Chicken and Broccoli Calzones. It took two and a half hours to make the damn things and my husband's first reaction was, "Could you do something to get more cheese in here? These are really bland."
ReplyDeleteOnce my cousin and I made a cake for a bake sale. As we were icing it, the song McArthur Park came on the radio with the lyrics " someone left the cake out in the rain" and we started laughing because out cake looked like that!

We tried to make these cute little Santa cupcakes and they looked SO awful. Anything crafty from Pinterest doesn't work for me. I'm just not one of those types of people.

This was not baking from scratch, but I once bought a pie and then realized that it was not baked. I took it to my friend's house for New Year's Eve and put it in the oven and followed the baking instructions, but for some reason, the pie would NOT bake. I don't know what went wrong. I think I had it in the oven 4 times the amount of time specified on the box, and the crust was STILL raw when we took it out.

ReplyDeleteOh my...what immediately came to mind, because it fits in both the best/worst category, was Mexican Chocholate Cake, a recipe from my sister-in-law. When she makes it it is rich, fluffy and cake like with a thin chocolate frosting that just melts in your mouth. It's so good. I made it, and it seems I don't know how to beat an egg. The cake came out like really thick brownies. I guess I don't know how to mix frosting either...but THAT part of the mistake was actually good. Only the very crust of the frosting solidified, and underneath that was liquid frosting. Imagine cutting a cake and a chocholate dribbling down. The kids loved it. So, it was both the best and worst!

The best AND worst thing I ever tried from Pinterest was a 3 tier fondant covered Mickey Mouse cake. It was a 6 hour nightmare, cute but a complete nightmare. I will never make anything like that again. I wanted to smack the person who made Pinterest that day.

My son is obsessed with robots, so for his 2nd birthday last year, I tried so very hard to create a robot cake.... it took a few tries... mostly because I was way too embarrassed to bring my creations in public!

I tried to make a cake for our roller coaster club party with little people and a roller coaster made out of fondant. It looked easy on Pinterest but was just a giant mess. The most ridiculous thing that I have seen on Pinterest was a wooden roller coaster where a child sits in a wood box and the parent pushes them up the hill on a stick. Built poorly with backyard engineering, that child was not happy either.
ReplyDeleteThe craziest and most horrifying thing I've seen on Pinterest was when I first started using it. It was a wall mural made completely of sequins. This poor idiot woman, no idea who she was (hoping not to offend anyone!!!), spent weeks drawing on her wall with colored pencils, then using those colors as a guideline to glue (YES, I said glue)colored sequins to her wall. Truly frightening!!

I tried making a special birthday cake using fondant for my daughter. She had a Monster High themed party so I made a multi-layer cake with zebra stripes and hot pink and black and white fondant. It looked pretty cute, but when we went to eat it, it tasted horrible! None of the kids would eat it!
